Help us make democracy work for everyone.

I serve on the Board of Directors of The Center for Election Science, a nonpartisan nonprofit. Our mission is to fix the fundamental, systemic flaws that lead to disenfranchisement, injustice, and a government that doesn’t listen to everyone.

Finding solutions to our most pressing problems—from divisiveness, to climate change, to injustice, to the domination of corporate influence—hinges on our having a voting system that gives voters actual choice, not just the illusion of choice. Until we adopt a better voting system, moneyed interests will always have more sway over our politicians than voters do.

The Center for Election Science promotes approval voting, a brilliantly simple yet revolutionary voting system that encourages candidates with diverse perspectives, completely eliminates vote-splitting, and provides a clear measure of every candidate’s true level of support—all improvements we dearly need. What’s more, it can be easily implemented without changing our voting machines or ballot design.

Approval voting has recently been adopted with overwhelming support in two US cities: Fargo and St. Louis. It’s the hot new thing in democracy.

As a small nonprofit with smart, successful methods, The Center for Election Science is a prime example of effective altruism—using your donations in places where they will have the greatest effect on improving people’s lives. To me, approval voting is the clearest, most effective, most fundamental defense against the many dire threats facing us today.
